Katowice's hotel market runs on a business-and-congress rhythm — the reverse of touristic Krakow: occupancy peaks on weekdays and spikes during major events in the Culture Zone — the European Economic Congress at the MCK convention centre (over ten thousand participants), Intel Extreme Masters at the Spodek arena (tens of thousands of visitors a day), plus trade fairs and industry conferences. The city's accommodation stock spans chain hotels around the Culture Zone and al. Roździeńskiego, business hotels in the market-square/Dworcowa quarter (led by the historic Monopol), and a growing segment of aparthotels and workers' hostels.
